BUNNELL, Fla., Feb. 1 (UPI) -- Authorities in Florida said a hand grenade purchased at an estate sale was found by a bomb squad to be filled with concrete.
The St. Johns County Sheriff's Office said its bomb squad was called in by Flagler County Sheriff's deputies Monday after a woman called to report she purchased the item at an estate sale, Historic City News, St. Augustine, Fla., reported Tuesday.
The woman said she purchased the item believing it to be a novelty cigarette lighter and called authorities when she began to suspect it was a real grenade.
Deputies said the firing pin appeared to have been removed and replaced.
The bomb squad said the grenade was disposed of about 1:10 p.m. and they determined it had been filled with concrete and was not a live weapon.
