SAVANNAH, Ga., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- An Iraq War veteran was ordered held without bond at an initial court appearance Wednesday on charges he took hostages at a Georgia Army hospital.

A psychiatric evaluation was also ordered for Robert Quinones, WTOC-TV reported.

Quinones, 29, appeared in U.S. District Court in Savannah. According to testimony, his family said he has been depressed since he returned to the United States in 2007 and was on two medications at the time of Monday's incident at Fort Stewart in Georgia.

His mother, who attended the hearing, was not allowed to embrace him.

Quinones had been a civilian employee at Fort Stewart since he left the Army in February.

Quinones allegedly entered the Winn Army Community Hospital on the base at 4 a.m., said he needed help and took three people hostage. He also allegedly threatened to kill President Obama and former President Bill Clinton, WSAV-TV reported.

While he was carrying four guns, he eventually surrendered without hurting anyone.
