NEW HAVEN, Conn., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- The mother of a Yale graduate student allegedly killed by a lab technician may sue the university, a lawyer said Wednesday at a hearing in Connecticut.
Bruce King told reporters in New Haven he has been retained by Annie Le's mother, the Hartford Courant reported. A pretrial hearing was held for the suspect, Raymond Clark III, who is being held in lieu of $3 million bail,
Le, 24, who was studying pharmacology, was last seen alive Sept. 8, 2009, in a lab building. On Sept. 13, the day she had expected to be married, her body was discovered hidden behind a wall in the building, and on Sept. 17, Clark, 25, was arrested.
King accused Yale of failing to investigate Clark before hiring him and of bungling the investigation after Le's disappearance. He also said the family found the $15,000 reward the university offered for information small.
"They have a duty to make sure they're hiring employees who don't have violent type of tendencies so that their students can be safe," King said.
Vivian Le of Placerville, Calif., still trying to come to terms with her daughter's death, has not made a definite decision about suing, King said.
