NEW YORK, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- The JetBlue flight attendant who made a dramatic departure from his flight via the emergency slide has left the payroll as well, an airline spokeswoman said.
Jenny Dervin confirmed Saturday that Steven Slater has officially parted ways with the company roughly a month after storming off of a crowded flight at New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport.
Dervin declined to elaborate to CNN on whether Slater resigned or was fired.
Slater had been accidentally hit on the head while helping passengers stow overhead luggage in an overhead bin and decided he had had enough. He helped himself to a beer from the beverage cart and left the plane by deploying the evacuation slide.
The uproar caused national headlines and Slater was declared a hero by scores of airline employees and sympathetic travelers.
Regardless of his acclaim, Slater has a court hearing Tuesday on charges of trespassing, reckless endangerment and criminal mischief, CNN said.
