ATLANTA, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- A Georgia prosecutor says he doubts the veracity of the myriad of health problems claimed by the founder of a science-fiction convention facing sex charges.
Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution his office has yet to be allowed to independently verify the afflictions that have thus far prevented Ed Kramer from going to trial.
"I assert a lot of this is fabrication," Porter said.
Kramer is the organizer of Dragon Con, a sci-fi convention in Atlanta taking place this weekend that the newspaper said Saturday was one of the largest of its type in the United States.
Kramer is accused of molesting two young boys 10 years ago; however, he claims debilitating health issues -- including emphysema, narcolepsy and a degenerative spine -- prevent him from taking his seat at the defense table for more than three hours at a time.
Kramer's attorney told the Journal-Constitution his client wants to clear his name but needs some accommodation from the court.
