Google has gov't online office suite     (Technology News)

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., July 26 (UPI) -- Google Inc. says it has a new version of its App online office suite designed for government customers.

At a news briefing at its Mountain View, Calif., headquarters, a company official said the suite meets requirements under the Federal Information Security Management Act, CNET News reported.

The company said the suite includes segregated data centers, which go beyond FISMA regulations, and will keep the government's e-mail and event data within U.S. borders.

After changing some security features and protocols, Google says, it got its FISMA certification late last week, the report said.

"FISMA has an enormous amount of controls," Matt Glotzbach, Google's director of product management for enterprise, said. "Things we did on an ad hoc basis, we needed to do on a regularly scheduled basis. We applied these changes to all our production changes."

Google Chief Executive Officer Eric Schmidt said the government organizations the company had talked with were "dying" to make the move to a cloud-based office infrastructure.
