Man claims he owns 84 percent of Facebook     (Technology News)

NEW YORK, July 13 (UPI) -- A Web site designer says he built the Facebook site and owns 84 percent of the popular online social networking venue, a claim the company calls frivolous.

Computerworld magazine reported Tuesday Paul D. Ceglia of Wellsville, N.Y., filed suit in New York Superior Court on June 30 alleging he had signed a contract with Facebook owner Mark Zuckerberg in 2003 that was to pay him $1,000 and a 50 percent share in the site plus another 1 percent for each day he worked until the project was completed. Ceglia claims that brings his ownership stake to 84 percent.

Facebook, which has more than a half billion users, doesn't agree, Computerworld said.

"We believe this suit is completely frivolous and we will fight it vigorously," Facebook spokesman Andrew Noyes told the magazine in an e-mail message.

Still, the suit complicates life for Facebook management. A New York Supreme Court judge issued a restraining order prohibiting Facebook and Zuckerberg from transferring any assets.

The matter has been transferred to federal court and Facebook is trying to have the restraining order lifted and have the case tossed, Noyes said.

Computerworld noted last year New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo obtained a temporary restraining order against a western New York wood-pellet fuel company, Allegany Pellets LLC, owned by Ceglia and his wife Iasia, after the firm allegedly took more than $200,000 from customers and then failed to deliver products or refunds.
