CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- The upcoming "Crank It
Up" event in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, offers a chance to create the
loudest so-called "burp" from a car's stereo system, a resident
says.
Nathan Flatgard, owner of Automotive Electronics in Cedar
Rapids, said the event is focused on a little-known sport called
bass boxing, which features car owners attempting to create the
loudest burp, or sonic blast, from a car's sound system, The Des
Moines (Iowa) Register said Friday.
"For spectators, it might not be as loud as auto racing or a
multi-engine tractor pull, but for anyone inside the car, it's an
entirely different story," Flatgard said of Saturday's scheduled
competition.
Get Loud Productions promoter Adam Prange said he hopes the
unusual competition will draw as many as 30 competitors, all vying
for the chance to make it the Sept. 18-20 national finals.
Prange told the Register most competitors take the event
very seriously.
"There's a lot of research, testing and design involved," he
said. "Then again, we had one guy who was in the finals in his class
last year with a $250 setup from Wal-Mart."
